About Gateway

Gateway Foundation, Inc. is a Chicago-based not-for-profit organization committed to the fight against alcohol and other drug abuse and addiction.

Since 1968, we have been an industry leader in providing corrections based treatment services. Gateway's correctional treatment is innovative, effective and cost-efficient. In-prison substance abuse correctional treatment programs can provide a 103% - 376% return on investment.

We work hand-in-hand with healthcare providers, local communities, schools, businesses and government agencies to respond to the ever-changing needs of people seeking alcohol treatment and drug treatment. We specialize in designing innovative correctional treatment programs to serve the special needs of youth, adult men and women and the elderly including those with a concurrent mental health diagnoses. We treat more than 27,000 clients per year and are the largest provider of adult and adolescent substance abuse treatment in Illinois. The work we've done has earned us numerous awards in the industry, including National Program of the Year.

We also strive to educate individuals, businesses, policy makers and the public about major issues related to substance abuse, addiction and treatment. We act as advocates in urging adoption of comprehensive correctional treatment programs.

Gateway's committed staff and a dedicated Board of Directors forge treatment partnerships with government agencies, political leaders, law enforcement, and social service organizations.  Additional financial support is provided by generous contributions from the civic and business communities and individual donors.
