Gateway Foundation
Jail-Based Services

Gateway Foundation began its correctional treatment experience in 1970 at the Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois. Although our treatment models have evolved over the past four decades, we remain committed to the provision of effective jail-based programs that assist local government entities with the management of its offenders who require treatment services and interventions into their cycle of recidivism.

By definition, Gateway's "jail-based" services are delivered within a county or municipal jail setting, and provide residential or outpatient interventions that target both the judicial and correctional needs of the population. Under contracts with institutional and community correctional entities, Gateway provides interventions for either pre-trial or sentenced offenders. Services range from comprehensive assessment and referral services, to substance abuse and/or mental health treatment, and cognitive intervention programs for offenders.

Each jail-based program is designed to meet the identified treatment needs of the population, and may include substance abuse education and treatment services, cognitive restructuring, relapse prevention, job readiness training, life skills training and/or re-entry preparedness to ensure the successful return of the offender to the community upon release.

Gateway's jail-based treatment services are delivered within the jail itself, or via outpatient settings under the jurisdiction of the jail:
